On the outside, it seemed that Charlie lived a wild-child artist's existence, travelling Amsterdam's beautiful canals. So why did Piet den Ouden bail her out when she accidentally landed in a fearful scrape? Piet was as serious as Charlie appeared carefree - and dynamic and rich.
