When Stormy Knight rode into Carnival on the morning James Sanford, newspaper publisher and editor, was found dead in his printing office, he rode straight into trouble. His immediate assertion that Sanford's death was not a suicide, but murder, made him some relentless enemies - chief among them Rufe Harper, cattle rancher and mayor of the town, and Harper's gang of mean-eyed, fast-shooting henchmen.
