'I spin from world to world because it is a way of life to which I have been born and bred.' And so Krip Vorland, in the course of his calling as a Free Trader of the Galaxies, came to the primitive planet Yiktor at the time of the Moon of Three Rings. Within hours of his land fall the young man found himself enmeshed in the feudal intrigue that held Yiktor in a state of strife. He escaped from a terrible imprisonment and was protected by Maelen, the Moon Singer. A weaver of thoughts, she was, Krip know both gentle and powerful and he was persuaded by her to discard his human body so that his inner being might assume a shape unrecognisable to his enemies. Maelen had her own strange purpose for this exchange and for a while Krip was content to remain within the guise of one of her four-footed followers. Soon such compensations that his new nature offered were replaced by a fear greater than his mind had ever known in Space. A hunted animal, Krip sought desperately to regain his human form before his companions, the Free Traders, lifted their ship towards the Galaxies once more . Brilliantly told by a leading science fiction writer, this is an adventure story which explores the farthest reaches of space and psyche.
