(1964)
A novel by

In Stalin's day, the professional murderers of the O.S.2 were overworked. They were popularly known as the "Travelling Executioners," and their principal task was to liquidate inconvenient "enemies of the regime." Then Kruschev disbanded the O.S.2 and work had to be found for its staff. One was appointed head of a spy cell in London. Yet he could not subdue his old inclinations: blackmail and murder were familiar weapons to him.

A young diplomat wakes up to find himself in bed with a strange woman - and the Russian spy-master has taken a photograph. Spy-catcher Papa Pontivy is the only man who can untangle the web and free those caught within it.
