Albert's Old House
(2023)(The first book in the Trenwalloe Sands Cornish Mystery series)
A novel by Daphne Neville
Mystery and murder are sprinkled with romance and eerie happenings in this frivolous, cosy, whodunnit. Set in Cornwall, Alberts Old House is light-hearted, easy to read and the first in the Trenwalloe Sands Cornish Mystery Series.
***
Retired builder, Albert Bray, known to one and all as Bert, is the last member of the Bray family to reside in the Cornish village of Trenwalloe Sands; hence on his demise, Lavender Cottage, the family home for over a century, is sold.
In the autumn of her years, retired gym mistress Dilly Granger, seeking change and enthused by the notion of a living by the sea, buys Alberts old house despite its need of modernisation.
On hearing snippets of gossip concerning the Bray family, Dilly and her godson, Freddie, are keen to learn more and with the help of neighbours, new friends and a local historian, they discover that Berts aunt disappeared without trace when just twenty years of age. Where did she go and for what reason? Also, Berts father, Frank, died in a hit-and-run and no-one was ever charged. If it was an accident, why did the driver not stop? Might it have been deliberate? Why did Bert never marry? And did his grandmother really read tea leaves?
Genre: Cozy Mystery
