From one of the United Kingdom's best-loved authors comes this heartwarming and emotional romantic drama. With its feelgood heart and sensitively handled themes, its seaside setting on the dramatic and beautiful North East coast of England and a cast of characters who feel like friends and family - Freya North brings the reader into a world they'll never forget.

In the quirky British seaside town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea in North Yorkshire, a grand old house needs someone to care for it when the owner is away on business.
Down in London, with her life in turmoil, a young single-mother crams her life into her car and heads North.
And so it is that the bridge-builder and the runaway meet.

Joe Saunders, an engineer, likes to believe that he is in complete control of his life. He has a great job, a good salary and no commitments - all he needs is a quiet house sitter for his rambling old place by the sea.
Then Tess turns up at his door having travelled hundreds of miles and she won’t leave until he gives her the job. From the start they intrigue and irritate each other in equal doses - but he needs her as much as she needs him.

With Joe frequently abroad for work, the house soon becomes Tess’s haven, the little town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea her home, its inhabitants her friends.
Before long, she finds herself looking forward more and more to the times when Joe returns and, for him, travel starts to lose its appeal. But both Tess and Joe are guarded about their pasts, wondering which secrets they will keep from each other - and which they might share.
