852 AD. Thorgrim Night Wolf, Ornolf the Restless, and the crew of the longship Red Dragon arrive on the shores of Ireland, part of the wave of Northmen sweeping out of the Scandinavian countries to plunder the unsuspecting lands to the west. Their intent is to return home with their riches, but this clash of civilizations grows more complicated, and the Vikings are soon swept up in the ongoing wars between Irish kings. As the raiders set their eyes on settlement rather than plunder, the fight between the Irish and the Northmen, and even between Viking bands, intensifies.

Increasingly desperate to return to his homeland, Thorgrim leads his small fleet of longships to England, where they are once again thrown into the middle of raiding and bloody conflict. But Thorgrim’s home in Norway is not immune to fighting either, as King Halfdan the Black sets his sights on taking Thorgrim’s land for himself, and only Thorgrim’s oldest son Odd stands in his way.

Historically accurate, sweeping in scope, and as fast-paced as a Viking raid, The Norsemen Saga will delight fans of Viking tales, Irish history, and maritime fiction alike.

“[Nelson] writes with such clarity and conviction that even a landlubber can follow the action and be gripped by it.”
Allan Massie,
Wall Street Journal.
