Miss Elinor Temple has been teaching at a school when the head mistress dies. She accompanies one of her pupils home to her guardian when the school is closed thinking to seek a new post afterwards. Marcus was not expecting his ward and coaxes Miss Temple to stay as a companion to his ward whilst she goes through a London season.
