Bycatch!: Ripples on the Ridgeway

(2024)
A novel by

Lammy Down, Bishopstone, Wiltshire 1200
Seventeen year old Herleva Miller is unfortunate enough to meet the village lecher, Sir William Downton, when alone one morning fetching water from the spring.
To save herself, she runs away from him and discovers a strange contraption up on the slope by the Ridgeway, in Wiltshire.
It's a wooden stile, unknown in her century.
Even though she doesn't understand it, she steps over to escape and immediately finds herself propelled six centuries into the future, into 1800. Taken in by the family of the local rector, she is totally bewildered by the age into which she has been thrust. Even the language is foreign to her. Why has this happened and how can she get back to her own age?
Just as she is beginning to see that she might be able to return to 1200, she realises, with horror, that Sir William has followed her to this future age.
And then, she and her new friend Augusta Dodds, the rector's daughter, discover a murdered man on the Ridgeway.
It becomes clear it's imperative that they uncover the murderer before she can return to her Mediaeval time.
A tale of dances, dresses, death and danger in the Wiltshire countryside of the time of Jane Austen.

Genre: Historical Romance
