The Alps Obscure

(2020)
A novel by

The stark beauty of the Alps is a wonder for newly married Clementine Rowland. With her husband, she’s set to enjoy a brief sojourn at the Hotel Belvedere on their way to Italy. It’s a comfortable and newly built establishment with a view over the magnificent Rhône Glacier. A crossing point between the North and South, the hotel attracts an eclectic group of guests, including some interesting characters, and also more haughty ones, like the Countess Wilhelmina von Rothbach.
During their stay, the hotel reveals concerning happenings, including talk of ghosts of a long-lost Roman garrison that disappeared in the thick mists that roll in across the mountains. Such stories are simply tales to thrill rapt listeners of dark winter evenings in Clemmie’s book, but alarm grows amongst the guests. Clemmie must confront the limitations of her closeted upbringing as the obscure threat comes closer.
