Who would have thought a perfectly innocent dance at Lady Vickery’s ball would ruin Violet Sunthorpe’s debut into society? The dance, with a polite but largely disinterested partner, had in no way been remarkable, but the next thing she knows, she is cut. All of society turns their back on her, and she doesn’t understand why.
Having just inherited his title, Wynn, now known as Lord Tullmarche, has suddenly become extremely interesting to all matrons with charges to marry off. On the whole, he can’t be enticed, but etiquette strongarms him into one dance with an utterly guileless country girl, who couldn’t be more different from the sharp-tongued company he keeps.
As it turns out, the consequences for this girl are severe, as fierce competition and jealousy attempts to divert his attention. Such manipulation can’t be borne, and steps must be taken to restore her, except she trusts neither him nor his intentions. So, this cruel act achieves the opposite from what’s intended to as she draws his in at every step.
