Anita Ray loves helping Auntie Meena manage Hotel Delite, where she gets to meet and mingle with guests from all around the world. But a recent tour has left her uneasy, and she keeps a close eye on the new arrivals. She was expecting six but only five arrived, but at least the hotel is full and Auntie Meena is still calm. One member of the tour speaks Malayalam, the local language, which stuns Meena, and another looks like she stepped out of a fashion magazine. She is tailed by a clearly besotted guest, and all of them seem to ignore the remaining member of their group, an older woman with a limp and a set expression. Anita sends them off with tips for tours and a happy wave. But when one of the guests fails to show up for a scheduled day trip, Anita begins to worry. She breaks one of her rules and knocks on his door. When no one answers, she enters, only to find the tour leader lying on his bed, dead. Auntie Meena's first concern is the angry aavi, or spirit, that is sure to torment her, the hotel, and the guests unless her astrologer can get there soon enough to capture it and carry it off. Anita has other worries.
