Royal Palm Literary Award Gold Medalist for Published Mystery Novel
From the judges: "Flowing narrative and well-turned descriptions of place take the reader on an eerie mystery ride." "...the writing keeps reader intrigued and pacing is good. Despite the tough, dark subject of murdered children, this novel will be a thriller-reader favorite."
From Rachel Caine, NYT bestselling author of the Stillhouse Lake series: “GHOST is a delicious, sun-drenched, frightening delight. If you like stories rich in setting and characters rich in personality, you can’t go wrong. Get it!”
No one believes her. Yet.
After Archivist Andrea Kelley scores a sweet rental in Charleston, WV, she discovers it’s already occupied. But the early rising, bacon-loving ghost of six-year-old Billie Mae makes for a tolerable roommate. Until two bodies turn up nearby and Billie Mae launches a full-fledged haunting offensive.
Scared, but determined, Andrea relies on her research skills and her best friend, Detective William Taka, to investigate the strange circumstances surrounding Billie Mae’s death—and her mother’s confession of murder. He's got the time to help because he’s pissed off his superiors, set an old feud on fire, and now someone’s tracking his every move.
Caught between an increasing phantom fury and Taka's sudden disappearance, Andrea's forced to confront the boundaries of her safe academic life. And the limits of her courage. Can she unearth a long-buried secret in time to save Taka and unmask a killer? Can she do it without either of them joining Billie Mae on the other side?
Modern Southern Gothic meets Sleuthing Procedural in this atmospheric murder mystery. Typical violence for genre. LGTBQ. Diversity. First book in series.

"Genre-crossing, it is part paranormal, part crime thriller, emphasis on the latter. ...genuinely atmospheric, and when avoiding digression, Elle is engrossing. The language is good, the book itself extremely well presented...I believe that if you settle down for a long read without any distractions, and you fancy the cross-genre of this book, you’ll find Ghost a rewarding read." Reviewer Matt McAvoy
“I drownded.” With those words and a few more sentences, the hook is set in this highly creative and well-written paranormal mystery. A bi-sexual detective named Taka, and Andrea, his best friend since grade school with whom he shares a unique relationship that is way more than friendship but not sexual (at least not yet), are the protagonists. The complications of their relationship overlay the meat of the story: the ghost of a young girl who was murdered in the house that Andrea is renting visits Andrea regularly and relentlessly until Andrea (an archivist whose research skills are key to the story) uses her skills to uncover the truth of the child’s murder. There are many twists and turns and the author inserts enough skepticism into the minds of the main characters to increase the believability of an improbable and well-paced plot. The dialogue of the well-drawn characters rings true. The ending makes it clear that readers may be invited to round two of the Taka and Andrea paranormal mystery-solving arena. Anyone who reads this book will be looking forward to book two." ~ 97/100pts RPLA FINAL Judge
