What happens in Vegas doesn't always stay there ...
Take my accidental marriage, for example. It’s a cliché, I know, but drunk people do stupid things like stumble into a neon-lit Elvis-themed chapel and say, “I do.” Not that I know if it was Elvis themed, because I was too drunk to remember that part.
But the evidence of our drunken escapades—namely wedding rings and a marriage license—are waiting to greet us in the morning. And while my first impulse—Megan's too—is to get an annulment, when we’re fully sober and consider all our options in the too-bright light of day, maybe staying together isn’t such a terrible idea.
Our chemistry is off the charts, which is what I blame for our drunken selves thinking getting married was a good plan. In vino veritas, as they say. We work in the same industry, and merging our companies would make us the definition of a power couple. Why not give this marriage thing a shot?
When my family gets involved, what started as a crazy accident turns into a full-blown train wreck. Lies abound, and I’m not sure Megan is who she says she is. Or that anything I’ve believed about my life is actually true.
When family secrets are revealed, I’m afraid I’ve made a terrible mistake. I’m not about to let Megan accidentally slip out of my life the same way she slipped into it.
But will she be able to forgive me after the way I behaved? Or is everything that’s happened too much to overcome?
