Jarle is a lord trapped by a dark enchantment, a man who must wear the shape of a bear by day and suffer as a man by night until he finds a love strong enough to break the curse laid on him by his stepmother, a powerful witch. When he falls in love with Elin, he hopes that she is the woman who will set him free, but to his dismay, her actions only make things worse.
To rescue her love and make things right, Elin must travel to Niflheim, a realm of primordial ice and cold that lies east of the sun, and west of the moon.
