Hyatt Tolman had a reason to leave Texas in a hurry, but one generous act changed the course of his life when he stopped to help a despairing girl. The townsfolk of Canebrake were suspicious of strangers after a stage hold-up. So when a posse brought Tolman to town, the sheriff was glad. Then the sheriff, a Texas Ranger, and Tolman himself wound up in the thick of a fight.
