(2018)(A book in the John Crane series)
An omnibus of novels by Mark Parragh
Collected for the first time, the complete first arc of the John Crane series.
This digital box set contains the first three John Crane novels, the novella, Bird Dogs, and the novella Pledged Assets, appearing for the first time in this collection.
Rope on Fire: Former covert agent John Crane finds an unlikely patron in Josh Sulenski, an idealistic young billionaire who wants Crane to find out who's sabotaging a harmless research project, and why. Crane follows the clues to the lair of gangster Branislav Skala. There he finds himself plunged into a new world where none of the old rules apply, and discovers a coded hard drive that will change his life forever.
Bird Dogs: Seeking clues to decipher Skala's notes, Crane follows a former gigolo to Buenos Aires, but soon discovers he's not the only one following his target. Crane's new ally has her own agenda, and soon Crane must decide how to play his cards in a game where no one is quite who they seem, and someone has to lose.
Wrecker: In Baja California, Crane crosses swords with a sadistic American trust fund heir and the drug cartel that’s taken him in. Meanwhile, Josh’s kindness to a former mentor reveals a dark conspiracy with disturbing connections to Crane’s mission. When he needs help most, it arrives in the form of an alluring, ruthless woman named Swift. She offers the guidance Crane needs to interpret Branislav Skala's notes, and he can't deny the sparks between them. But trusting Swift could mean Crane's death.
Pledged Assets (First publication anywhere!): Crane forges a cautious alliance with Swift and follows her to Venice, where the clues he needs are sealed in the vaults of a centuries-old underworld bank. Undercover on an isolated island, surrounded by enemies who will kill him if his identity is revealed, and pursued by the seductive wife of his dangerous host, Crane must find a way into a seemingly impenetrable vault, and escape the island with his life.
Shot Clock: As the world's elites gather at a luxury hotel deep in the Canadian Rockies to plot the course of the planet, Crane and Josh are there to see who shows up and who's talking to whom. But the conference is a carefully laid trap, and when it’s sprung, the hotel becomes a killing ground. Cut off from the outside world and hunted by heavily armed mercenaries, Crane must protect a group of survivors including Josh, Swift, and a badly wounded old man whose death could trigger the end of the world. Secrets are uncovered, alliances are forged and broken, and nothing in John Crane's world will ever be the same again.
