Sometimes two broken people make one whole
Hope Maguire has always been a loner, both by choice and necessity. Shed learned from a young age not to expect anything from anyone, and that suited her fine. In her line of work, friends would be nothing but liabilities anyway. Most Hunters dont live long, so why get attached? When shes assigned to Malcolm, a stuffy, inexperienced Guardian of the Guild, and then sent to work with the team (ugh!) at the Creek Valley CrossRealms, shes sure its going to be disastrous.
Self-fulfilling prophecy much?
Approached by a third party and asked to inform on her fellow agents, Hope thinks shes doing the right thinguntil its revealed that she has been a pawn in a deadly double-cross. Now, assassins are after her, and its run or die. Too bad a near-fatal attack has left her as weak as the prey she used to stalk. Hope knows she is as good as dead. No one will save a Hunter who turned on the good guys. Right?
Malcolm Mansfield-Smythe has always regarded Hunters as tools for killing demons and little else. When his rebellious Hunter betrays them all and then ends up on the chopping block herself, its tempting to forget about her and keep being the empty, by-the-book man hes always been. Except he doesnt want to be that hollow automaton anymore, and he doesnt think Hope wants to be a cold-blooded weapon, either. A daring (but poorly planned) rescue leads to a life on the run. Forced to rely only on each other, can two enemies find a way to become friends or even more?
