I love the early Ellery Queen mysteries. However with this one I was left dissatisfied. Three things: Firstly Ellery comes out with an explanation of all the clues which doesnt make much sense as even I could see that this would mean Ellerys choice of killer identifies themselves for no good reason (even his father Inspector Queen points this out to him) Ellery too thick to realise this!! Second If we eliminate the obvious suspects who naturally didnt do it, there wasnt much mystery about who did. Thirdly Ellery comes up with a solution (presumably the correct one) but with no actual proof, just a plausible explanation to which the killer says so what!.
