Excerpt from Sails of Sunset: A Novel

Then he turned, conscious of someone quietly coming to his side. The light from the salon blinded liim as he looked from the sable Italian night; and for a moment the silhouette in the arcaded Window was unfamiliar. He drew back a little into the shadow of the wall, surprised by a low laugh.
