As if all this weren't enough to satisfy a teenaged heroine, her father's construction business has inexplicably perked up, and the family is spared a dreaded move to Florida. This tangle of plots and subplots--all of them achingly predictable--combines with the fuzzy narrative to make for a story that is tedious at best.
