Lord of Illusions

Just after dawn, on the morning of the meet in his home town, Damon O'Fee looked in the washroom mirror and saw, behind his own reflection, the dark silhouette of a horse's head. He turned to the window and looked out through a mesh of spider webs, spatters of mud. Nothing but turf beaded with dew in the bluish first light.
