At FDR's request, Eleanor Roosevelt travels to the Bahamas, where the United States is planning to establish air and naval bases in order to thwart Hitler's plans for expansion. The Duke and Duchess of Windsor, who are exiled in the Bahamas, receive Eleanor warmly and entertain her among the islands' many millionaires. Eleanor, meanwhile, is forced to utilize her keenest protocol abilities in preventing the duke and duchess from coming to the United States, for they have been rumored to harbor pro-Nazi sympathies. But even though the First Lady is protected by a staff of undercover intelligence officers, the strange customs that prevail in the Bahamas trap Eleanor in the complicated, subversive schemes fabricated by wartime profiteers. As Eleanor begins to investigate the situation more intensely, her visit makes her privy to startling plots that could turn the Bahamas - as well as all of Latin America - into a Nazi base. In A Royal Murder, the resourceful First Lady faces one of her most challenging mysteries yet as she encounters smuggling, defection, internal disloyalty, murder - and even attempts on her own life.
