In my Rearview

Family is everything.

I’m a cliché. Well, I was until recently. I acted out in anger to gain my parents’ attention, to make them see me for who I was, not who they wanted me to be. Then, when that didn’t work, I ran away, going to the only person who would understand. My older sister, Helen, found peace and love in Sweetville. I know that sounds hippiesh, yet it’s the truth. I’ve discovered the first part all on my own. The second, however, requires help. That’s where Winnie Barker comes in. Unfortunately, she’s already got one foot out of here.

Soon this place will be in my rearview…

And trust me, I won’t be looking back. There’s nothing for me in my hometown except bad memories and a father that conveniently forgets he’s the adult. I learned to take care of myself from a young age and I don’t see that ever changing. Of course, I’d have to let somebody in for that to happen, but that route merely leads to pain when they leave you, so it’s better to avoid it. Then I meet Jason Patel and I realize he’s dangerous because he makes me hope. What if I can stay here…with him?
