The only games I play are on the gridiron. My fame, while a blessing, has also been a curse. My entire existence is scrutinized by people that don’t know me, and my worth constantly debated by my performance on the field. Being bullied as a kid left a lasting impact on my self-esteem, which is why I avoid any personal entanglements, unable to trust the motives of others. I have no desire to search for my soulmate. I wouldn’t even know what to do if I found her. Of course, that’s exactly why I stumble across Lily Wren. I know she’s mine the instant I see her. I just have to convince her. It's a cliché to think all girls want to marry a man like their dad. I want the exact opposite. Don’t get me wrong, I believe he loves us, but temptation was stronger than his loyalty. We weren’t enough for him, something I accepted long before my mom did. Seeing her pain, I vowed to never date an athlete and it’s been an easy promise to uphold. No one has ever made me want to cross that line, not even when I move to a new city and am surrounded by the hometown team. When Keaton Wayne gets down on one knee in front of me, the innocent encounter is twisted into more than it is.
