Falcon's Keep

(1969)
A novel by

In his old age, the eccentric Nicholas Kendrick advertised for distant relatives with the intention of inviting them to spend prolonged periods at his imposing country house, Falcon's Keep. When Ginny, in a fit of curiosity, answered the advertisement on the off chance that it might concern her, the old family lawyer confirmed that she did indeed qualify - but warned her about the hostile attitude of the old man's son Luke. 'At least as far as Luke is concerned, these guests are not entirely welcome,' he told her. But Ginny - it would make a change from her dull job at a private hotel - decided to go. She was welcomed by old Mr. Kendrick, but Luke bore out all that the solicitor had said about him. And only when another guest arrived, in the person of the glamorous Anthea Clifford, and Luke made it clear that here at least was a welcome guest, did Ginny realize just how much store she set by his opinion!
