In the baking heat of a summer day, a woman's body lies in a wood on a remote hillside. Beneath a cloud of buzzing flies it sprawls awkwardly at the foot of a huge tree from which it seems to have fallen. Or did it, perhaps, drop from the sky? Detective Superintendent George Rogers reflects that there are, after all, two flying clubs in the neighborhood. As it turns out, someone from the Plattsmoss Aero Club is missing - Kirstin Mahir, who fits the description of the dead woman. Wing-Commander Corbersley, while reluctant to see the Club he runs involved in scandal, has to admit that Mrs. Mahir was reputed to have slept with most of the men who belonged to it. Rogers, flanked as usual by the elegant Detective Chief Inspector Lingard, tries to discover how a corpse might fall from the sky, and what secret relationships simmer beneath the cool exteriors of the members of the Aero Club. 'Dropped dead', an absorbing study of character and motive, continues a superb series of crime novels characterized by the humanity of George Rogers and the authenticity of police procedures. Jonathan Ross is the pseudonym of John Rossiter, an ex-Detective Superintendent of Police who is not a full-time writer living in Wiltshire, England. Book Dust Jacket
