Children everywhere love the humorous writings of Michael Rosen. The Book of Nonsense is another excellent example of his work. It contains lots of incredibly funny rhymes and limericks, poems and wordplay that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike, all offering lots of opportunities for smiles, giggles and laughing out loud. Particularly appealing is the one entitled "The Long and Amazing Story of What Happened When We Went to the Game Last Week" . "I was bored / they scored / we roared." The whole text is embellished with Claire Mackie's excellent illustrations, which add extra humour and enjoyment. (Reluctant readers particularly could benefit, as the humour will attract them where other, drier, books fail.) Short listed for the Kate Greenaway award, this is suitable for children aged 7 years and older. --Susan Naylor
