When H. Stafford Trevor, barrister-at-law, agrees to act as best man at his cousin Geoffrey's wedding, he is appalled to discover that his cousin's fiancée is litte more than a child. Then Geoffrey dies, leaving a will whose stringent conditions tie the young widow to the house at Fairy Water. Trevor vows to act as her guardian and protector.
