It is the Age of the North American Continental Thruway System -- the vast highway with half-mile-wide lanes -- which extends from Alaska to the southern tip of Mexico. Controlling this huge network are the NorCon patrol cars, outfitted for every roadside contingency, with miniature hospitals, machine shops, living quarters and jails. Cruising at 600-mile speeds across ten-state areas, NorCon crews monitor a strange world of civilian cars almost as powerful as their own.
