A realpolitikal thriller graced with none of the excesses of the genre and involved with the U.S.S.R.'s. arrest of young Roy Keeper as a spy -- he was said to have secured a Pasternakian memoir The Mushroom Cave wanted by everyone including a French publisher. Roy is promised freedom if he confesses but is released only to be killed and his father attempts to find out the real reasons behind all of this which keep changing. Plausible and peremptory -- a hard-to-beat combination.
