Our world is in peril. The elites gather more power and more wealth, and the icecaps melt, and there is talk of a new Civil War in the United States. Into that mayhem steps J, the Angel of Death. Or the Angel of Hope. The truth depends on your point of view.

"Coddled and misunderstood by her ungrateful family, the sixteen year-old Daniela Childs abandoned the Colorado estate for a life of uncertainty and hunger, bad relationships and powerful alliances. During her extensive wanderings, the young woman twice escaped sexual violence, and twice saw it perpetrated on others. Sharing street corners with the victims of a corrupt, unfeeling economic system, the runaway discovered pity for the mentally ill and drug-ravaged. Sometimes she feared for their wellbeing, so much so that she woke in the night crying. But in sunlight, she typically looked at the destitute as useful tools that she could mislead at will, for her own entertainment, perhaps, or to steal what little money they had acquired from pliable strangers and a ridiculous welfare system.

"Daniela’s adventures included riding inside an open boxcar, hitchhiking during hailstorms, living with California Buddhists and on a Catholic retreat in Illinois, and in southern Utah, in a place bearing no official name, she nearly became the fifth wife of a polygamous old Mormon who believed himself blessed by God for this delightful creature that he called 'Cathy.'

"Regardless of the names she wore, she was always Daniela Childs."
