Medici Guns
(1974)(The first book in the Leonardo Da Vinci series)
A novel by Robert Ross and Martin Woodhouse
. In this first novel of a three-part historical adventure series, Leonardo da Vinci performs wonders as the 'James Bond' of Renaissance Italy. In The Medici Guns, the multi-talented artist employs his famed inventions - in this story an awesome cannon design - in service to the Medicis of Florence. From a deadly accurate cannon design to high-flying kites, Leonardo's true-life inventions become key to preserving the military and political independence of Florence, one of Italy's famed city-states, against the scheming and powerful Cardinal Borgia, his vast armies and his wily ally, Pope Sixtus IV of Rome. In this tale beginning in 1477, Florence's strategic Castelmonte fortress is under siege by a papal army, so "only a brilliant, daring gambit could save Florence, so the Medicis turn to an impetuous young genius: Leonardo da Vinci." History and art lovers, Renaissance buffs and adventure aficionados will love the drama and fast-pace of The Medici Guns.
