Don't get too comfy.
A storm is brewing, and it is filled with far more fury, death, and destruction, than anyone is prepared for.
You think you know your enemies?
You think you have this queen shit all figured out?
You think your lovers are safe?
You think you're safe?
Think again.

A snippet from the book
My eyes sting with unfallen tears and I bite back the weakness that threatens to flood my eyes.
"Stop." The word is barely above a whisper, yet it cuts through the stillness like an arrow. I am the queen, their queen, and yet they do not budge. They stand stock still, disrespect oozing from every pore as their eyes watch me with neither respect nor fear.
It is Karsi who makes the first move, his shoulder crashing into mine as he charges forward. His footsteps mar the ones I've created, lessening the starkness of the blood that blossoms from the snow. It feels like an insult, like his only intention is to erase her.
My eyes follow him to her body, an axe pinning her to a massive oak tree. Again, the anger rises, and I know, lover or not, that my hand will mark the face of the next one to cross me.
I part my lips to warn Karsi. To let him know that if he doesn't back away there will be consequences. It's not wholly the truth. Back away or not, he will pay for what he's done. They will all pay. That thought wraps a noose around my heart, strangling it just that much more. When Karsi presses his lips to Shar's head, when he brushes her golden hair away from her face, my entire world seems to go up in flames. He holds the parts of her body that aren't blocked by the axe and he weeps for her the way a man weeps for the love of his life.
I feel hands on me. Hands that I know better than I know my own. Hands that have caressed parts of my body with the kind of love that only exists in fairytales. But the touch I receive now is nothing to be envied. It is filled with a hatred that can burn an entire land from top to bottom.
"Look at what you've done," they say.
"Wicked woman," they curse.
"Murderer," they chant.
In their words I find nothing but chaos. Chaos and guilt. It isn't until I see my own hands, thick with the blood of my sister, that I realize the blame doesn't fall where I've been throwing it.
Then all of a sudden, the warriors are gone. The forest folds away, as if it were only ever scraps of paper. I am left exposed, on a hillside of ice, in a world of snow, frigid wind, and death.
Faintly, in the distance, as if it's pouring out of the sky itself, the sound of a woman's laughter.
