Close Your Eyes and Sleep, My Baby

A baby is kidnapped, beaten, tortured and murdered. A young mother, bereft and distraught, is deserving of the greatest sympathy - or so it seemed. But mothers do kill their own children, a fact which the police must bear in mind. Another child is beset with longing for a baby of her own, to love, to cherish - to kill? There was mystery enough for Detective Chief Superintendent Challon and his men to solve. Could there possibly be any sort of happy ending?
