Few people ever commit serious crime. Something has to happen to make ordinary men cross the barrier and become criminals. Jack Robinson was an ordinary man. Working in a bank, he becomes infatuated with Penelope Grayson, a customer, - so infatuated thathe crosses the barrier. Following Penelope home, he sees her enterher flat with a man - and later he kills the man. It is left to Detective Chief Superintendent Evans to investigate.
