Candace Simar

Candace Simar is a writer and poet from Pequot Lakes, Minnesota, in the heart of Lake Country. As a life-long Minnesotan, the grandchild of immigrants, Candace nurtures a passion for Minnesota History.

Publishing her Minnesota-based historical novels,  ABERCROMBIE TRAIL 2009, POMME DE TERRE 2010; BIRDIE 2011; and BLOOMING PRAIRIE 2012, has been a dream come true.

Her poetry expresses her deep connection to all things Minnesotan and has received awards from the Bob Dylan Creative Writing Contest, the League of Minnesota Poets, the National Federation of State Poetry Societies, and the Brainerd Writers Alliance.  FARM GIRLS (River Place Press 2013) co-written with her sister, Angela F. Foster, celebrates bits of memoir and story about growing up on a Minnesota dairy farm.   BIRDIE received the 2012 Spur Award for best juvenile fiction set in the west. BLOOMING PRAIRIE was honored as a finalist for the 2013 Spur Award.  Candace is a grateful Five Wings Arts grant recipient.
