Just who--or what--is Raum? On one hand, he is undeniably not of this world. His stature and appearance set him apart from the men whose world he now lives in, and in addition he has powers that no one else in this world has ever possessed. But Raum has been in the world of men for a long time--and the longer he stays, the more he becomes like a man himself. His powers have been dwindling since he left the Netherworld that used to be his home, and at the same time he has developed some qualities that can only be called human, such as the ability--and the desire--to love. This is the story of Raum's quest for the woman he loves, who has been kidnapped and taken to a land across the sea--a land populated by fierce and proud savages who both hinder and help Raum in his search. Even if he succeeds in finding his beloved Vivienne, Raum must still face the challenge of escaping from the land of the skraelings with his life.
