Touchdown for Tanner

I thought my football glory days were behind me. Then I pulled a drowning girl from the sea. And wouldn't you believe it: her daddy knows me. And he has a plan for me to play again.

Her name is Anna, and when I pulled her shivering from the water, I knew at once I needed her.

Football is my life. My rock. My purpose. And I know I should be focusing on the game. But every time I'm passing the ball, all I can think about is her. 

Then I'll have a lineman sacking me and throwing me on the turf and I'll wake up on my back, reeling. 

How's a dude supposed to focus on the game if all I see in my mind is her? 

The deeper in love I fall with her, the further I am from living my football dreams.

And I guess that I'm supposed to choose. The ball or the babe. The field goal or the favorite girl.

Throw in my studies and my aptitude for injuring myself beyond repair, and you might say I'm stretching myself a little too thin. I hope I don't fail again.

I cannot stand to fail again.

But that way Anna looks at me, it rips my heart apart. She knows I'm trying to decide which path to choose. And she knows my choice as well as me.

Because I do not think that I'll choose her.
