Following the death of her husband, Lady Katherine Atwood returns to London, determined to live a quiet life. Having endured a decade long marriage to a brute of a viscount, she is more than happy to live in genteel poverty, as long as she is free. When the news comes that the boy whom she had loved since childhood, would return to England as a duke, she tries not to let herself feel too hopeful.
