The Doctor's Dilemma, Getting Married, and the Shewing-Up of Blanco Posnet
(1928)A collection of stories by George Bernard Shaw
Most of Shaw's early plays were either banned by the censor or refused production. He began the practice of writing the challenging, mocking, eloquent prefaces to his plays, which were sometimes longer than the play itself. In 1925 he won the Nobel prize. The Doctor's Dilemma at one level this comedy is a tragedy dealing with allocation of scarce medical resources and how Sir Ridgeon will decide which of the two men he will save. Getting Married finds him securely in his bully pulpit, discoursing on all the anomalies, injustices, and dangers of British marriage laws. The Shewing-up of Blanco Posnet is a one-act religious tract in dramatic form was censored for blasphemy.
