After the tragedy of losing her daughter way too soon, Joy wanted to give up. And maybe if she hadn't gotten the attention of the very rich, very generous owner of a baseball team she might have, too. If she had to go back to work right away to pay the huge medical bills and funeral expenses and rent, Joy probably wouldn't have been able to function. But Joy had been lucky. She had caught the eye of Erik Stevens and he had taken her in, so to speak. Giving her a job that she could start when she was ready and giving her a place to live was more generous than Joy could have ever imagined.

Meeting a resident of the apartment building she now managed, Joy never thought her connection to Mr. Stevens would change her life yet again. She never thought a baseball player with his own tragic past would be the one to help her heal.

Jimmy was given a second chance at life. He had been forced to make difficult decisions to save someone he loved and now he had to live with the consequences of those decisions. His sister was safe and the owner of his previous team was willing to give him a second chance. All he had to do was be willing to play second string. Jimmy was willing to do anything to be allowed back. When an unfortunate injury gave Jimmy the chance to be back on the starting line he jumped at it, even if he felt bad for his injured teammate.

Now he had to expose his past so he could have his friends back. Who knew a little sprite of a dancer would be the one to push him to take that chance.

Life would never be the same, marked by tragedy and pain, Joy and Jimmy begin the difficult journey to healing and happiness.
