Clay Warrior: Books 1-3
(2019)(A book in the Clay Warrior series)
An omnibus of novels by J Clifton Slater
The Clay Warrior Stories are deeply researched historical fiction combined with high adventure. There are no dragons, wizards, or magic spells. Just blades and men skilled in the art of war, living in a time when empires clashed. An era when death rode on the edge of sharp steel and only the lucky or the good walked away from a fight.
The boxset includes Clay Legionary, Spilled Blood, and Bloody Water books 1, 2 & 3 in the Clay Warrior Stories series.
Welcome to 271 - 265 B.C.
#1 Clay Legionary
These are the adventures of Alerio Sisera whose journey takes him from an undersized farm lad to a Legion recruit, with a price on his head. Legionary Sisera is shrewd, tenacious, and a talented swordsman. In each of the three books in this boxset, Alerio will need all of his skills and blessings from the Gods to survive.
#2 Spilled Blood
Alerio's adventures continue in Spilled Blood. Our young Lance Corporal will be tested by traitors, street gangs, and the city guard. Resolutions in the Capital take many forms. For Alerio Sisera, it's a gladius and spilled blood.
#3 Bloody Water
In Bloody Water, Lance Corporal Sisera's finds himself at a besieged harbor garrison and reinforcements are not coming. It's up to Alerio to battle with his gladius while standing in bloody water.
This was not a world dominated by a wealthy Empire with far flung numbered Legions, professional Generals, and Legionaries fighting on distant shores. In the 260's B.C., two types of Legions kept the law; Those in garrisons around the country and those formed under a Consul/General to react to a threat
Clay Warrior Stories are tales of surviving during the tumultuous Roman Republic era.
Italy was mostly settled by Rome north to the Tuscany region. Beyond there, the territory was disputed by barbarians. To the south, at the tip of the peninsula, other than a few instances of garrisons turning on the citizens, the land was under control. Across the Messina Strait, Sicilia was a political and bloody battleground between Carthage and Syracuse. In the east, it had only been four or more years since many of the cities were brought into the Roman Republic.
Clay Warrior Stories takes you into the chaos of the times and important events of the years. Together with Alerio Sisera, you'll bleed and collect scars as you fight your way across Italy.
