The Eleventh Jaguarundi and Other Mysterious Persons
(1995)A collection of stories by Jessica Amanda Salmonson
"Salmonson, author of 'Anthony Shriek,' 'Tomoe Gozen,' and 'The Ghost Garden,' is interested in pattern and shape here, image and sound, not sense and plot, character and reason, and so, as you read, existence becomes increasingly unstable. Before long a gentle vertigo settles over these remarkable fictions which are bathed in an absurdist humor and a delightfully eccentric understanding." -- Lance Olsen, Review of Contemporary Fiction
The collection was originally published by Wordcraft of Oregon in a limited edition of 250 copies. A truncated version of "Madame Enchantia and the Maze of Dream" had previously appeared in "Walls of Fear" edited by World Fantasy Award winning anthologist Kathryn Cramer, but the definitive text appears only in "The Eleventh Jaguarundi." The other tales first appeared in such diverse locations as Marvin Kaye's "Angels of Darkness" and Mark Rainy's "Deathrealm," besides a couple items entirely original to this collection.
