---Excerpt---

Florida - Present Day

After recounting our Christmas recollections from 1964, Paul and Ringo departed my Florida home. Our brief and wonderful reunion ended when Paul handed me a slip of folded over white paper, whispering as he hugged, his driver opening the door to a black SUV in front of my home, “When you’re ready. Call this number.”

"What's this?"

He added, “Helen, don’t tell the Inspector.”

Inspector Tuffle, my questioner of the last hours, who’d gotten me to talk of Beatles events I swore I’d take to the grave, gazed at me with watchful, eagle eyes from my sunroom. I could tell he had more on his mind.

He said, his British accent clipped, "One more thing, Helen. Didn’t want to be rude by asking in front of Paul and Ringo."

“I appreciate your politeness, Inspector.”

He came out with it, "What happened in Greece?

"Greece?" My stomach turned, suddenly feeling tied in knots. I felt sweat at the top of my back.

"Yes. In 1967. A trip to buy an island. Argos was it?"

I gulped.

This was what the Scotland Yard Inspector had been waiting to find out. I sensed his eagerness, saw his interest in those intelligent eyes.

Paul's small paper felt wet in my clammy hands. I swore I’d never tell this story.

The Inspector leaned toward me, "Please begin. And leave nothing out."
