Three Women

Elizabeth, at the ace of fourteen, was always the strong one in the family. She saw no reason not to speak her mind when the occasion demanded and was quite prepared to take on her rich uncle Joe when she believed he was exploiting her older sister Mary at his chocolate factory in Bristol. Mary was always plain, put-upon and accident-prone. It was Helen their cousin, who seemed to have everything - money, beauty, marriage to her childhood sweetheart... The passage of two world wars would visit very different fortunes on these three women, but Elizabeth's fierce independence always ensured survival, at any cost.
