The Englishman's Wife

(2003)
A novel by

John and Georgia left London to abandon themselves to the joys of a simple, modest life in the Dordogne, in their little 'dream' cottage. After a summer of sun and parties, they have to face the facts: the simple, modest life is turning out more expensive than they'd expected, the winter is harsh and the locals are not always that easy. And why does Georgia put on so much make-up when meeting other men and act so charmingly flirtatious with them? Consumed by the green eyed monster of jealousy in this static little hamlet in the Dordogne, John, outside of his London millieu, is very slowly beginning to lose the plot. The simple rustic life that he envisioned in is becoming more complicated than he ever imagined and he has murder on his mind.
