I knew in advance that this book featured Tom and Jenny as the main characters but I didn't realise until I had finished the book just how little the rest of the Shropshire Lone Piners contribute to events. Nothing at all about Jon, Penny or Harriet either - victims of geography again!
I have never been very keen on the character Tom. That said in The Man With Three Fingers he comes across as a much more interesting character. His developing relationship with Jenny is explored in a sensitive way and I almost feel that I have misjudged the lad! Jenny too is not nearly as feeble as in some of the earlier books.
But oh dear. Far too many coincidences. The highjacker in the cafe chosen by Tom and Penny for a meal and the policewomen's sister who just happened to be Danks secretary are just two of the more feeble ones.
Genre: Mystery
