She thought I chose my work, but she was wrong. I’ll always choose her.

Ben wants to be done with the CIA so he can spend every day with the woman he loves, but the government rushes for no one. While waiting for his retirement paperwork to be approved, Ben goes on one last mission. It should be easy. Get in, blow up a building, get out, and go home for good. Then he discovers the agency’s error. Now he’s got a terrorist threatening to destroy everything Ben’s been fighting for.

Hailey never wanted a white picket fence. Her cabin in the Appalachian Mountains suited her just fine. Of course, it’s homier when Ben’s there. After fifteen years of accepting that he had to leave her to do his job, she finally worked up the courage to ask him to stay and put her first. When he still walked away, she told him not to come back and started building her future alone.

Now Hailey’s in danger and Ben’s not sure if he can make it home in time. As the secrets of his work spill into the happy life he’s always kept separate, Hailey and Ben get one more chance to be stronger together and stop a man who’s crossed continents with the sole mission of destroying them both.

This second chance, thrilling, romantic suspense short story features a strong woman who yells at birds and a CIA agent ready to build rocking chairs and spend life on his porch. The action comes with terror and spice but no cheating before Ben and Hailey get the HEA they both want.
