Sarah had no great opinion of marrying just for love: coming from a large family, she was raised to understand the virtues of strict economy. But, after spending three years with her rich relations at Kilburn Hall, she quickly learnt to appreciate all the comforts money could buy. James Foster was crippled, and by no means handsome, but Sarah had little hesitation in accepting his marriage proposal, for it promised a life of wealth and consequence for herself and greater comfort for her family.
